Stretching across the fertile floodplains of the Brahmaputra River in northeastern India, Assam is one of the largest and most prolific tea-growing regions in the world. The region’s low elevation, rich alluvial soil, and tropical monsoon climate create ideal conditions for producing teas with remarkable depth, strength, and character.

Assam is home to the native Camellia sinensis var. assamica tea plant, a broad-leaf variety that thrives in the region’s intense humidity and warm temperatures. These conditions produce teas known for their full-bodied structure, deep amber liquor, and malty richness—a flavor profile that has made Assam the backbone of many classic breakfast tea blends.

The peak harvest occurs during the Second Flush in early summer, when the teas develop their signature malty depth and robust aroma. These teas are celebrated for their ability to hold their character even when enjoyed with milk, while high-quality whole-leaf Assams can also be savored on their own for their complexity and warmth.
