Single-Estate
Indian Teas from
India's Hill Gardens
Crafted with Purpose

Most tea arrives in your cup having passed through auction halls, broker warehouses, and import storage — months older than the tin suggests. Ours traveled through one pair of hands.

KVL Hill Garden Teas — at origin in India

At origin — the gardens we source from

"I grew up drinking tea made the way my parents made it at home — from leaves they could trace to a name. When I found our Darjeeling estate, I tasted that again for the first time in years."

Our Story

KVL exists because we couldn't find what we were looking for in Boston. Single-estate at heart. Purposefully blended where it matters. The difference isn't the tea. It's time, and who handles it. We bring it to you while it still has something to say.

Estate to your door

Most commercial tea is 12–18 months old at time of sale. We built our model around a single constraint: freshness above everything.

Auction houses used

No Kolkata auctions. No regional brokers. We negotiate directly with each estate — and we know exactly what we're buying because we've visited.

Per product, always

Every product we release traces to a single garden, a single harvest, a single flush. Not a marketing promise — a structural commitment.

Where the tea comes from

Three regions.
One standard.

01
Darjeeling
2,000m · First & Second Flush

The "Champagne of Teas" — muscatel notes, gossamer body, a brightness that fades the moment you compromise the leaf. We source exclusively from Gopaldhara Estate, 7,000 feet above sea level. We don't.

GI Protected · Himalayan Foothills
02
Assam
Sea level · Monsoon & Autumnal

Bold, malty, unambiguous. The tea that built an empire — but ours comes from a single garden in the Brahmaputra Valley, not a blending factory chasing consistency over character.

Brahmaputra Valley · Direct Partnership
03
Nilgiri
1,800m · Year-round · Frost teas

India's most underestimated origin. High-grown, floral, quietly complex — and almost impossible to find outside the subcontinent at this quality. Chamraj Estate. We found it.

Blue Mountains · Southern India
The founding philosophy

Two truths, one intention.

Inspired by Ardhanarishvara — the ancient concept of opposing forces held in perfect balance — KVL was built on a tension most tea brands quietly resolve. We don't. We hold both.

Single Estate

One garden. One identity. Every variable — soil, altitude, rainfall, harvest date — traceable to a single origin. Purity without apology, transparency without exception.

Purposeful Blend

When we blend, it is with reason — never to mask inferior leaves, always to elevate what's already there. Artistry that honours the leaf, and never obscures it.

What's coming

Four categories. One quality threshold.

✦  Pure Origins

Single-origin teas, traceable to the garden

Unblended · Flush-dated · Direct from estate

Each tea carries the identity of a single garden. Not a region, not a blend assembled from the auction floor. One estate, one harvest, one character — exactly as it was intended.

The harvest calendar

Tea has seasons.
Ours always will.

We source by flush — not by inventory availability. Every release is tied to the garden's calendar, not a warehouse reorder.

Mar – Apr
First Flush

The most anticipated harvest. Light, aromatic, fleeting. The first new growth after winter dormancy — and the hardest to find at estate quality.

May – Jun
Second Flush

Fuller body, the famous muscatel character. Peak Darjeeling. This is our opening release — the flush that made us start this company.

Our first release ↓
Jul – Sep
Monsoon

Assam's defining moment. Intense, malty, built for the morning. Rare at single-estate quality — most disappears into blending factories.

Oct – Nov
Autumnal

Copper-coloured, mellow, quietly complex. The harvest most buyers overlook. We don't. Some of our most interesting releases will come from this window.

Follow the founding

From garden gate to your cup, documented in real time.

We share the estates, the people, the decisions — and the things that don't work. Follow the build before we launch and become a more informed tea drinker before you spend a dollar.

I.

Understanding Flush

The same estate produces four completely different teas across the year. We document what flush means, why it matters, and why knowing the harvest date changes how you think about what's in your cup.

II.

The Single-Estate Case

A single-estate tea is to a blended commercial tea what a Grand Cru is to a house wine — not inherently better, but traceable, characterful, and honest. We make the case, detail by detail.

III.

Inside the Gardens

We visit the estates we source from. You'll follow along — from the plucking tables at dawn to the withering floors and the sorting stations, documented without the marketing filter.

First Harvest · Limited Access

Be first at the table.
The harvest is coming.

We're releasing our opening inventory to a small list before we open to the public. No newsletters, no noise — just a message when the tea is ready, and a window to order before anyone else.

Questions

What you may want to know

When are you launching?

Our first release is aligned with the Second Flush season — the most characterful harvest window in Darjeeling. We're not rushing it. Sign up and you'll be the first to know the moment we open, before anything goes public.

What makes you different from other premium tea brands?

Most premium tea brands are premium importers — they buy from the same auction system, just at higher price points. We have no auction relationship. We negotiate directly with the gardens and visit them ourselves. The estates are partners, not suppliers.

Where exactly do you source from?

Three named regions, four specific estates: Gopaldhara in Darjeeling, Bahani in Assam, Chamraj in the Nilgiris, and Wah in Kangra Valley. Every product we release will carry the estate name, the flush, and the harvest date. Not marketing — accountability.

How fresh is the tea, really?

Our target is estate-to-door in four to eight weeks. For premium first flush releases, we're working toward even faster windows. Every lot will be dated. You will always know what you're drinking and when it was picked.

Will you have loose leaf and bags?

Launch is exclusively loose leaf. The format isn't a preference — it's the only honest way to deliver a single-estate tea. Bags fragment the leaf and mask the character we've worked to preserve.

Why is this a pre-launch page?

Because the first harvest has a fixed window and limited quantity. We'd rather build the right list before launch than scramble after. Early subscribers get access before we open publicly — that access is real and we intend to honour it.
